Delivering up to three times more coverage versus competition for tablets, smartphones and high performance laptops, the industry’s only 4×4 MIMO, 3 spatial stream access point delivers mission critical reliability. Current solutions struggle to scale to meet demands on the wireless networks from the influx of diverse mobile devices and mobile applications. The new Cisco Aironet 3600 Series sustains reliable connections at higher speeds further from the access point than competing solutions, resulting in up to three times more availability of 450 Mbps rates, and optimizing the performance of more mobile devices.

Cisco Aironet 3600 Series includes Cisco ClientLink 2.0 to boost performance and range for clients and includes Cisco CleanAir spectrum intelligence for a self-healing, self-optimizing network.

RF Excellence
Building on the Cisco Aironet heritage of RF excellence, the 3600 Series is a flagship access point, delivering industry-leading performance for secure and reliable wireless connections. Enterprise-class silicon and optimized radios deliver a robust mobility experience which includes:

• 802.11n with 4×4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology with three spatial streams, which sustains 450 Mbps rates over a greater range for more capacity and reliability than competing access points.

• MIMO equalization, which optimizes uplink performance and reliability by minimizing the impact of signal fading.

• Cisco ClientLink 2.0 technology to improve downlink performance to all mobile devices including one-, two-, and three spatial stream devices on 802.11n.

• Cisco CleanAir technology, which provides proactive, high-speed spectrum intelligence to combat performance problems due to wireless interference.

All of these features help ensure the best possible end-user experience on the wireless network.
Cisco also offers the industry’s broadest selection of 802.11n antennas delivering optimal coverage for a variety of deployment scenarios.

Scalability
The Cisco Aironet 3600 Series is a component of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network, which can scale to up to 18,000 access points with full Layer 3 mobility across central or remote locations on the enterprise campus, in branch offices, and at remote sites. The Cisco Unified Wireless Network is the industry’s most flexible, resilient, and scalable architecture, delivering secure access to mobility services and applications and offering the lowest total cost of ownership and investment protection by integrating seamlessly with the existing wired network.

The article will educate a user about Cisco ONS 15600’s features such as scalability, patented cooling for high port-density long-reach optics, SONET/SDH DCC Processing Power, Management and provisioning, etc.

The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP provides 320 gigabits of switching, grooming, aggregation, and bandwidth management capacity in a single shelf, with each 7-foot Network Equipment Building Systems (NEBS) 2000 rack supporting up to three shelves. Networkwide scalable capacity must extend through the edge and metro core and ultimately to service POPs. The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP in conjunction with the Cisco ONS 15454 MSPP enables network scalability from the metro edge all the way to the services POP.

Patented Cooling for High Port-Density Long-Reach Optics
The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP has a patented cooling system that enables it to provide 32 OC-192/STM-64 or 128 OC-48/STM-16/Gigabit Ethernet optical interfaces in a single shelf. This patented cooling system makes it possible for the Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP to scale to higher bit-rate interfaces such as OC-768/STM-256.

SONET/SDH DCC Processing Power Provides Full Visibility of the Network
The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP is capable of terminating and processing hundreds of DCC channels simultaneously, allowing full network visibility. It is this inherent capability that allows end-to-end services to be provisioned and the complete network to be monitored through management software such as Cisco Transport Controller and Cisco Transport Manager.

Like the Cisco ONS 15454, the Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP uses advanced IP for DCC communications. However, Cisco realizes that many traditional metro edge network elements use the OSI protocol stack for DCC communication. Attempting to communicate with network elements which use OSI in their DCC channel is an interoperability limitation. To address this and to eliminate the need for colocated traditional network elements, the Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP uses the ITU G.7712 standard to terminate OSI-based DCC channels and forward the traffic to the data communication network (DCN) router. The G.7712 standard provides a framework for interworking between network elements that use OSI and IP in the DCC channel.

Management and Provisioning
With the Cisco Transport Controller, an easy-to-use Java-based, point-and-click craft graphical user interface (GUI), the Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP provides scalable bandwidths, easy switching and grooming, A-to-Z circuit provisioning, auto network element discovery with network topology, and custom bandwidth management, allowing service providers to design transport networks around subscriber needs rather than around equipment limitations.

The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP is also supported by the Cisco Transport Manager. Cisco Transport Manager is the carrier-class element management system that provides advanced capabilities in the functional management areas of configuration, faults, performance, and security for Cisco optical network elements, subnetworks, and networks. Cisco Transport Manager is based on a client-server architecture that scales to support up to 3000 network elements and 100 simultaneous clients.

A user should note that the Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP meets all OSS/NMS and Operations Systems Modification of Intelligent Network Elements (OSMINE) requirements, supporting Transaction Language One (TL1), Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), TIRKS, NMA, and TEMS interfaces.

• Backplane connector replacement
The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP allows for the in-service replacement of backplane connectors if they are damaged. When repair is performed properly with the supplied tool, a backplane can be safely repaired without powering the system down.

• Fully hot-swappable
All system components, including line interface cards, common cards, fan trays, power distribution units (PDUs), and customer access panels, are fully hot-swappable, allowing a service technician to add and remove components without having to remove power from the system.

Carrier-Class Operations
Now, let’s have a look at the Carrier-Class Operations. The Cisco ONS 15600 provides carrier-class software features optimized for deployment in today’s large carrier networks.

• Fully nonblocking connectivity
Helps ensure that all connections made through the Cisco ONS 15600 are nonblocking, thereby providing a very high degree of network reliability.

• Errorless software upgrades
There are no bit errors observable in overhead or payload streams during a software upgrade on the Cisco ONS 15600. An upgrade is normally characterized by a bulk reconfiguration of the system database and/or a replacement of system software or firmware.

• Multiarea Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)
Enables network scalability to scores of nodes directly connected to the Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP.

• Security features
Security is a top priority for every service provider, because without effective security, provisioned circuits and service provider revenue are at risk. Several security features are provided to offer adequate protection for a service provider’s network:

– Firewall capability
Prevents users outside of the section data communication channel (SDCC) management network from sending traffic into the SDCC management network.

– Superuser-initiate
Allows the superuser to log out another user immediately.

– Password spinning
Allows a maximum number of login attempts, and blocks that username after the maximum number of attempts has been exceeded.

– Audit trail
Offers capability to archive the audit trail records.

– Timeout control
Times out a user session after a specified period of time has passed.

• Provisionable alarms
Alarm severity (critical, major, minor) as well as the service-affecting designation (rot reported, not alarmed) can be provisioned. The software also provides user-defined alarm profiles, along with a default alarm profile that is set to Telcordia or ITU specifications.

• Ease of use
The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP software enables customers to perform operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning (OAM&P) tasks in the most efficient manner possible. This is accomplished with such features as a Java-based craft interface (Cisco Transport Controller) self-install wizard, span upgrade wizards, and circuit provisioning wizards.

After reading the article, a user would have gained knowledge and understanding about Cisco ONS 15600’s Carrier-Class Serviceability

The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP provides greater than five-nines reliability, or 99.9995 percent uptime. These reliability figures are a combination of numerous system-level and component-level attributes including:

• System components
The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP uses components with life spans that well exceed the serviceability lifetime of the five-nines reliability. The use of high-availability components minimizes the chances of a failure because of a component fault. If there is a component fault, the entire Cisco ONS 15600 system is 1:1 protected to help ensure carrier-class availability.

• Restoration time
The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP supports less than 25ms protection switching time, a 50 percent improvement over current industry standards.

• System exposure
Exposed reset buttons produce a higher probability of vulnerability to faults caused by external forces. To remove that exposure, the Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP eliminates exposed reset buttons that could be pressed inadvertently.

• Power
The power feeds need to be extremely robust when compared to a typical wire feed and must provide a mechanically rigid power delivery system that would be extremely difficult to displace. Each power feed to the Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP is carried over individually laminated solid metal bars that also provide an integrated approach to power filtering. These power feeds are fully redundant and fully isolated. The power feeds supply power to the A and B power bus bars, which in turn provide power to each shelf component through the redundant power backplane. If one of the power feeds fails, each shelf component automatically selects the working power backplane in an error-free transaction.

• Automatic shutdown
If both central office power feeds fail, the Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP performs an orderly, sequenced system shutdown. This “graceful shutdown” feature allows the platform to power down in an orderly and predictable manner, helping ensure that the platform sustains no damage and the system is ready to return to service when the central office/service point of presence (POP) fault is repaired.

• SONET/SDH backplane
The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP has fully redundant backplane connectivity to the line interface cards and the cross-connect cards. The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP traffic moves from the interface cards to the cross-connect cards and back by traffic being placed on both copies of the backplane. Each backplane trace on both copies is constantly monitored for quality. If errors are detected within the system, a hitless redundant copy switch is performed.

• Control backplane
Similar to the other data paths on the Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP, control signals are sent to each shelf component over a fully redundant control backplane.

• Timing
The Cisco ONS 15600 MSSP provides an internal stratum 3E clock, providing extended holdover when operating in an internal timed mode. This timing or timing derived from an external BITS or line-timed source is provided to each of the shelf components through a redundant timing backplane.

The article will provide a user with information and guidance on the benefits of Cisco Telepresence multipoint switch.

Scalability
The Cisco TelePresence Multipoint Switch is designed for any sized workgroup to deliver multipoint meetings among Cisco TelePresence endpoints, with support for up to 48 screens in a single meeting. Additionally, Multipoint Switch cascading is supported to enable meetings with up to 90 screens. Please note that only static meetings are supported when cascading.

Impromptu Calling
During an active meeting, the conference manager can add another party from the web interface and the participant is automatically added to the meeting. The automated-Attendant capabilities on the Multipoint Switch allow any Cisco TelePresence endpoint to dial into a scheduled meeting. After a user enters the conference ID that the Automated-Attendant requests, a user is joined into the appropriate meeting.

High Performance and Low Latency
The high-performance Cisco TelePresence Multipoint Switch server provides very low latency, allowing natural conversation and quick multipoint switching between Cisco TelePresence meeting rooms.

Audio Add-On
Remote, audio-only participants can join a meeting by using conferencing features on the meeting-room phone or by integrating an audio conferencing bridge into the meeting in both point-to-point and multipoint calls.

Director Controls
For special events, custom video switching and audio mixing are often required. It is now possible using the web-based controls in the Cisco TelePresence Multipoint Switch Administration.

Encryption
The Cisco TelePresence solution supports full media and signaling encryption with no discernable latency to the Cisco TelePresence call for up to 48 screens. In addition, Cisco TelePresence meetings can be designated as nonsecure, secure best effort, and always secure. Meeting encryption status is indicated on-screen at the start of a call or when it changes, and on the phone at all times.

Video Announce
This configurable option allows new participants joining a meeting to briefly be shown on the displays of all participants already in the meeting so they know a new party has joined.

Bandwidth Management
Automatic camera transmission control significantly reduces network traffic by eliminating the data feeds of nonspeaking meeting participants. Each meeting can be assigned a maximum quality (rate). If a Cisco TelePresence endpoint that has been assigned a lower bandwidth rate joins, the bandwidth rate of the conference automatically decreases.

Comprehensive Diagnostics
Diagnostics features include system status information, alarms, downloadable logs (syslog messages), and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) support.
Call Detail Records (CDRs). Call records provide meeting start and stop data and participant details. A user can export records to a third-party application for manipulation and data sorting.

Meeting Controls
Multipoint Switch provides the following meeting control features:
• Participant list: Allows a user to view a list of all the endpoints in the meeting
• View control: Displays the active speaker or the active room
• Meeting access: Enables or disables other endpoints from joining the current meeting

By reading this article, a user would have gained understanding and knowledge about the benefits that Cisco telepresence multipoint switch can provide.

The Cisco TelePresence Multipoint Switch (Multipoint Switch) allows geographically dispersed organizations to hold Cisco TelePresence meetings across multiple locations reliably and easily. With support for up to 90 screens in a single meeting across a mix of endpoints, the switch allows all participants to be seen in life-like, high-definition video and heard in CD-quality, spatial audio combined with the industry’s lowest latency.

The industry-leading design of the Cisco TelePresence Multipoint Switch delivers voice-activated switching either site-by-site (site switching) or by individual table segment (segment switching). This affordable appliance is also easy to install and manage.

Design
The design is user-friendly and multipoint meetings are scheduled using enterprise groupware (such as Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes), and they start with just a click of a button on the meeting room phone. It is so simple that it removes the need for support personnel to set up meetings. Organizations can connect participants quickly and easily with multiple locations in the same meeting by giving empowerment to a user to communicate and collaborate.

Features
Let’s have a look at the features of the Cisco TelePresence Multipoint Switch:

Support for 48 video screens
The system supports conferences with up to 48 total screens. Any combination of the following endpoints is supported:
– Cisco TelePresence System 500 Series (single screen)
– Cisco TelePresence Systems 3010 and 3210 (three screens)
– Cisco TelePresence System 1300 Series (single screen)
– Cisco TelePresence System Profile Series (single screen)
– Cisco TelePresence System EX Series (single screen)
– Cisco TelePresence System 500 Series (single screen)

Videoconferencing interoperability
When linked with the Cisco MXE 5600 Media Experience Engine, the Cisco TelePresence Multipoint Switch provides full interoperability with the installed base of H.323 and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) videoconferencing endpoints.

Spatial, interactive audio
Multichannel, discrete audio means sound comes from the direction of the speaker, allowing voice tracking as audio is switched between locations. Sub-10-ms latency brings transparent switching between sites or segments during a multipoint call.

Cisco TelePresence WebEx OneTouch
When combined with Cisco TelePresence Manager, audio and data collaboration can be shared with the Cisco WebEx application. It allows sharing of participant lists and viewing of Cisco TelePresence video for the current speaker.

Affordable and easy to install and manage
Web-based administration with role-based profiles is easy for administrators at both group and department levels. Three roles are available: system administrator for access to all functions, conference management for control over meetings, and diagnostics-only for technical access to system processes.

Cisco Prime Collaboration Manager support
As an end-to-end monitoring and troubleshooting system for Cisco TelePresence meetings, Cisco Prime Collaboration Manager monitors the status of all Cisco TelePresence Multipoint Switches discovered within the network.
