Multimedia On Your Mac
We live in a Multimedia world - we watch movies on our computers, online through sites like YouTube and even through sites like Facebook and MySpace to see what mates and celebs are doing.
Even more we spend our time listening to music, podcasts and audiobooks. What better computing system to do so on than a Mac, the makers of which are also responsible for the most powerful and popular multimedia players in the world - the iPod.
Below are some of the most popular multimedia apps available for your Mac - have a look through the list and youâll probably find something you already use and something you think might do a better job for your needs;
VLC Media Player - Is this simply the best media player out there? No matter what system it plays on it manages to play almost anything available. No other media player even comes close to competing against it - as it stands I havenât found anything it doesnât play and I donât expect to any time soon.
Explicit - How annoying is it when a movie file wonât fit on to one DVD. Now you donât have to worry because with Explicit you can cut one .avi file into two and then burn the movie over two disks.
Mac The Ripper - Has a better, and more relevant, name ever been given to an app? Mac the Ripper rips DVDs on your Mac! And it does so beautifully. You can use the Ripper to make âlegalâ back ups of your DVDs as well as allowing you to remove regional information meaning you can play region 2 DVDs on a region 3 DVD player.
Toast 10 Titanium - Not everyone feels comfortable parting with good money for something that is already built into OS X Leopard, but believe me it is money well spent. Any Toast user will tell you that the app never fails to deliver and one purchase will tick all your âburningâ boxes for years to come.
DVDRemaster - How annoying is it when you want to burn a dual layered DVD but you only have a single layered burner. It isnât annoying with DVDRemaster as it will shrink your DVD down to fit on a single layer converting more than 7 gigs worth of movie down to the more supportive 4.2 gigs.
Ffmpegx - This is the perfect companion to VLC player if you like to spend your time around tons of different encoded video clips. If you have downloaded a video file only to have found out itâs the wrong format fear not because this app will change it to the right format for you, maybe for your iPod, phone, DVD player, etcâŚ
