Useful Android Apps
As the Android operating system starts to come into it’s own creeping out from behind the shadow of the iPhone we think it’s time to check out some of the most useful apps you can get your hands on.
Google’s Android Smartphone’s came to the market with high-hopes as the most realistic iPhone killer at the time, however the iPhone is still as successful as it was and Google are still trying to catch up.
The real deal is the Smartphone system still has its great benefits - let’s have a look at some of the most useful apps there are out there making this Smartphone system a great tool;
Cab4Me
As you might have guessed this app helps you get a taxi easily, wherever you are - perhaps not in the middle of the Saudi Arabian desert, but if you’re in London then you’ll be safe.
Let the app know where you are and it will find you a taxi…easy as that! Cab4Me will show you a number of different options along with user-ratings to help you avoid the dodgy companies.
Voice Recorder
All right, so Google doesn’t like to play around with the names of the apps that they provide - if this was an iPhone it would be called iVoiceRec or something. Voice Recorder provides you with a tool to turn your Smartphone into a voice recorder allowing you to keep record of anything from meetings to lectures.
The sound quality isn’t great but if you find yourself without your favourite digital Dictaphone then this app will get the job done.
Tube Status
Once again we like nothing more than ridiculously over-simplified app names and Tube Status doesn’t fail to deliver - if you haven’t guessed by now this app keeps you up to date with the status of the tubes.
If you’ve ever spent more than 5 minutes in our lovely capitol then you’ll know that the tubes can suffer with constant moodiness that could leave you stranded at Hounslow when you need to be at Victoria - don’t let this happen to you again!
The Weather Channel
No, this app doesn’t allow you to change the weather like a television channel, instead it will you keep you in the know with regards to weather in your area using the G1’s built in GPS. There is not much more involved in the app other than what you would come to expect from a weather app - if you want to know if it’s going to rain tomorrow then get this app!
Translate
To cap off our list of blatantly obvious apps, Translate does exactly what it says on the tin by translating one language into another. It’s a free app so you can’t guarantee that everything is on the nose but it’s great if your real life translator is stuck on the tube because he didn’t check Tube Status.
G1 - Useful or Useless?
How have you found your Android experience? Does it meet your expectations? Let us know…
