Virgin Customers Offloaded to Gmail
Virgin is currently in the process of migrating all of its four million strong broadband customer base over to Google’s email service in an attempt to get rid of the three existing in-house email services that they currently have in place.
Virgin’s plans are to assign places to new customers and when 20,000 are sitting comfortably inside Gmail they will start asking existing Virgin customers to make the switch.
And if you are on Gmail yourself at the moment and started to feel a bit jealous thinking about all the special features that Virgin customers will be receiving then don’t worry – they’ll be getting the same options that you or I will be getting! Sorry Virgin customers but it’s a cruel world…
How to utilise Gmail and show off to your other Virgin mates;
So you’ve found yourself now in a world of Gmail, away from the security and warmth of the Virgin blanket…how do you know what to keep your eyes peeled for? Which features should you be clicking on?
Offline
You have the ability to work in Gmail offline – you can search your email, chalk up draft emails and do pretty much anything you would want to do as if you were online except send and receive mail. Perfect when wi-fi is nowhere to be seen.
Tasks
You can do a lot with a google account but there was always the option of creating a to-do list…well now you can go ahead and do one. Created tasks at the click of the mouse or the tap of a couple of keys and away you go: you’ve planned out your month!
Quick Links
You’ll find quick links in a small sidebar attached on the left just below the labels section – use quick links to bookmark anything from searches to emails. Bookmark away and have easy access to you most commonly used Gmail bits.
Superstars
Gmail was always associated with yellow stars – a yellow star could be used to “favourite” certain emails so you don’t lose them in the sea of correspondence that you receive on a daily basis. Superstars is the obvious leap from the single yellow star to 12 different icons that allow you to do lots of different things in order to help you organise your emails even more efficiently.
Canned Responses
When an “out of the office” message just isn’t going to cut it it’s time to use canned responses – if you find that you are typing the same reply time and time again then set up a canned reply and next time just send the reply in one click. Imagine all the time you’ll have on your hands to send other emails!
Is Gmail the way forward?
There are three main email clients out there that shine above the others: Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail…which one do you prefer? Let us know why…we want to hear from you…
