Creative has established itself already as the well known brand in the field of computer audio equipments. It has released an innovative product called the Creative Prodikeys DM Value into the market. It is a dual keyboard, which integrates the MIDI keys ingeniously along with the multimedia PC keyboard. With the assistance of customizable software that is included, the Prodikeys DM has the ability to convert itself into the “Sampler”. The Sampler is an audio equipment piece, wherein you may mix multiple different sounds together. It is usually used by the music directors to make some rough sample of background score. The Samplers are normally very expensive – a good one costs some huge bucks. With the Prodikeys DM, the Creative has offered a cheaper alternative for the aspiring music directors.

The Creative Prodikeys DM is a MIDI keyboard and a standard PC keyboard rolled into a single device. MIDI keys are concealed perfectly below palm rest and it is only when you detach the palm rest, they can be accessible. The keyboard appears to be little bulky, but still it is compact enough to perfectly fit on any desktop. You may switch between the Music Mode or the Standard Keyboard mode with the press of the music button, positioned on the left of the keyboard. The volume button of scroll type is located on just above that music button. The multimedia keys are neatly placed above function keys.

I had some doubts related to the keyboard ergonomics- considering that bulkiness of the unit. But to the surprise, this Prodikeys DM is designed ergonomically for a comfortable working. The palm rest is fashioned very nicely. The keys aren’t so soft, while compared to the products from Logitech and Microsoft. One more thing that took me to a surprise is that the keyboard plugs itself into the PS2 port, and still supports a lot of functions.

You have to install the software and the drivers bundled along with the product, in order to operate it. Also one has to remove those drivers when he wishes to switch to another keyboard, else the latter would refuse to work.

Creative Prodikeys DM is made available in two colors; Biege and Black. The Beige colored one is good for pairing it up with the iMac.
