This is an age-old question. Is a wired mouse superior to its wireless cousin? Well like most things in life it comes down to personal preference. There is no correct answer. Hopefully the following will help you to make an informed decision.
Wired Mouse
A wired mouse is often more reliable. There are no batteries to worry about as the power runs down the mouse lead. There is also no wireless signal to consider. Just plug it in to the computer via the power cable and away you go.
A wired mouse does have its disadvantages though:
Twisted cable: The mouse cable can get twisted and caught up in other cables, which can be a pain. You have to spend time untangling it and for gamers this can be a nightmare.
Length of Cable: You are limited by how long the USB cable is. If the cable is to short you may have to move you whole computer just to get it to reach. No matter how hard you try you can’t go beyond the bound of your cable. A solution to this is being an extension cable but this can be a pain. If you then pulled on it the cable could easily disconnect.
Wireless Mouse
The main advantage of a wireless mouse is that you can use it just about anywhere. You have no cable restricting you and no more fighting with cables. I’m sure we have all been guilty of tugging on our mouse cable so we can gain some more slack at one time or another.
Apart from the no wires attached advantage there are a few disadvantages to using a wireless mouse:
Batteries: The price of batteries can soon mount up if you use your mouse a lot. Using rechargeable is a good alternative but laying out the money in the first place along with the expenses of a charger can be quite costly.
Wireless Signal: Wireless interference can be a real nuisance. If you are trying to work on the computer or play games having the mouse keep cutting out will soon have you pulling you hair out. Sometimes other wireless devices can interfere with you wireless mouse causing you to not be able to use your mouse at all.
Decision
The best way to find out what is right for you is to try both. If you find cables keep getting in your way then give a wireless a whirl. If you start to have your mouse cut out at random and get fed up with replacing the batteries then switch to a wired mouse.
It’s your choice really. Both types of mouse have their advantages and disadvantages. I personally use a wired mouse. I find them more reliable and a good tip to stop you from losing your cable is to tape it at intervals along the cable to stop it dropping behind your desk and to fix it down from getting entwined in your other leads and cables.
