Are Google Set To Dominate The Mobile Phone Market?

As if they did not have enough power it seems as though Google are set to target the mobile phone market in 2008, with their Android operating system proving to be a big hit among handset manufacturers already. Interestingly they have released the operating system as an Open Source program allowing developers and coders alike to create their own add-ons, features and styles of the system. So what is in it for Google?

By handing over the reigns to the Open Source world, and adding various Google internet facilities to the system, this is the perfect way for Google to ensure that their internet services are very much part of the future of mobile surfing. While over the last few years there has been much concern about the speed of data delivery, we are seeing ultra quick broadband services being developed in the Far East – and ready to hit the US and Europe in the not too distant future.

By attacking the market share of Microsoft, who have long had a strong hold of the mobile phone operating system sector, this will ensure that Google internet facilities receive just as much, if not more, exposure than the MSN service. There is no doubt that as mobile broadband speeds continue to increase, the use of mobile internet services will follow suit. While this is an area in which there is still much work to do, current services have only scratched the surface of what promises to be the next big growth market.

Will Google go on to dominate? Will Microsoft fight back? Whatever happens over the next couple of years it looks as though the consumer will be the main beneficiary. Heavy competition can only mean lower prices and better services, the Holy Grail as far as the consumer is concerned!
