Cisco’s Linksys has announced the introduction of the Linksys Wireless-N ADSL2+ Gateway (WAG325N). The new device intends to provide Internet and wireless connectivity for home and small businesses.
Linksys’ device has got a five in one solution for solving wireless connectivity problems. It includes a Wireless-N access point, router, ADSL2+ modem, SPI firewall and 4-Port 10/100 switch. All these features are packed into a single device meaning users have ease of operation.
The in-built 4-port 10/100 Ethernet Switch is a utility feature that enables users to share files as well as printers by simply plugging in their computers to the gateway. Users also have the option of connecting four PCs or introducing other switches that allows them to create a larger network.
Users can connect their wireless devices using the WAG325N Access Point. The Linksys Wireless-N Home Router is a definite improvement over the other available devices on the market because it promises to provide speeds up to 12 times faster and up to 4 times faster than the currently available range of Wireless-G.
The Wi-Fi Alliance for the Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMMTM) standard has certified Linksys Wireless-N Home Router as well.
The ADSL2+ modem feature in the gateway is responsible for providing high speed broadband connection. The speed of this connection is far greater than the one provided by a dial-up connection.
The Virtual Private Network (VPN) terminal in the Gateway has the ability to create IPSec encrypted “tunnels.” These tunnels enable five users to connect to a remote network while still staying within the framework of a wireless network. Finally the SPI firewall protects users from unwanted intruders and known Internet attacks.
Commenting on the new Gateway, Mohammad Hoda, Regional Manager, Middle East and Africa, Linksys said that the new WAG325N was an all-in-one solution for Internet connectivity.
“We believe the new gateway addresses users’ needs with the ease of use that consumers expect from Linksys and with the level of speed that Wireless-N and ADSL2+ offers, making it ideal for media-centric applications like video streaming, gaming and Voice-over-IP calls, even all at the same time,” he added.
The Wireless-N Home Router will hit UK markets in June and is to retail for £79.99.
